I have grown up with it because my mom is a huge fan. I however cannot stand country music. Most of the time the talent is limited and the lyrics are terrible. They are always about some truck, dog, tractor, or cheating man. I do not know why people like that.
Not to put a fine point on this, but this is the cliche definition of country, and as such, it's not necessarily so.
Not that country is one of my favorite genres - it isn't - but like most musical styles, it does have its good songs and artists. I enjoy, although in small doses, singers such as Hoyt Axton, Johnny Cash, Crystal Gayle, Garth Brooks, Waylon Jennings, and Merle Haggard.
Besides, I used to love annoying my last ex by playing "Okie from Muskogee" because she hated the song.
